The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Uche Secondus, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for endorsing Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in emerging the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Secondus gave the commendation in a statement issued by his Media Aide, Mr. Mike Abonyi, in Abuja on Wednesday.
The party’s National Chairman welcomed what he described as historic emergence of Okonjo-Iweala, the Nigeria’s former Finance Minister, as the first female and African Director-General of the WTO.
He commended President Buhari for putting away political sentiment in throwing heavy weight on both Okonjo-Iweala and Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), for the exalted international jobs.
Secondus stated that Okonjo-Iweala’s victory coming immediately fter the re-election of Adesina as the AfDB President gladdened the PDP who according to him brought Nigeria’s best heads into government.
‘’Okonjo-Iweala’s emergence as DG of WTO is a reward for hard work and commitment to excellence as she demonstrated in all positions she held nationally and internationally.
‘’This pleasant news coming at this time that the nation is witnessing her worse is relieving and hope rising that a greater tomorrow awaits this land.’’
The PD Chairman also commended the international community particularly the ECOWAS and the African Union (AU), for displaying a sense of brother hood when it mattered the most.
He, therefore, prayed God to grant her all she would need, including wisdom, and a discerning mind to lead the World Trade Organization.
